Dr. Ashley Chauvin N.D began her career with a degree in Radiation Therapy.  Listening to the questions patients had about diet and supplements led Ashley to become interested in the impact of naturopathic medicine on conventional cancer care.  She decided to make a career change and graduated from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. Afterwards, she completed a residency program with a focus on intravenous therapy and integrative cancer care.

“Hormone therapy and cancer: risks, opportunities and special considerations” with Ashley Chauvin, ND

Abstract:

Hormone therapy and cancer is a complex and controversial topic. In this presentation, we will explore the history of the use of hormone therapy and examine the pivotal Women’s Health Initiative study that changed how hormone therapy has been viewed and prescribed.

We will gain a deeper understanding of the different types and routes of hormone therapy including bi-est, conjugated equine estrogens, progesterones, progestins, pellets and their impact on cancer.

We will delve into the potential risks associated with hormone therapy treatment and its impact on breast cancer development and recurrence.

Our discussion will cover the latest research in special populations such as BRCA1/BRCA2 gene carriers, and endometrial and cervical cancer survivors.

For breast cancer survivors, understanding the nuances of hormone therapy is vital. We will examine hormone therapy challenges and opportunities for treatment options such as estradiol, estriol, testosterone and DHEA to improve quality of life and menopausal symptoms in this population.

After leaving this presentation, the audience will gain a deeper understanding of hormone therapy and cancer and be confident in having informed discussions with patients.
